I knew about it but never knew when it aired, and now it seems to just have past quietly into the night.
I think it faded under the radar, particularly since it seemes centered on side characters and not Kagami and maybe Konata. Though from the looks of things, it seems those two did make appearances in that.

Thats what I believe I hear about it an that it was to be Lucky Star season too then later heard it was the side characters that appeared at the end and kinda lost interest. I saw part of the manga and just never took to it.

It was just a web series with 10 episodes about 5 minutes each.
Also, Aya Hirano got fired? From what, being a pop idol?
She wasn't fired by Kyoto Animation. There's simply been nothing by KyoAni starring her since Haruhi no Shoushitsu to fire her from. She quit/was fired from her talent agency and record label, though.
It's more likely there's just been no plans for more Haruhi or Lucky Star due to KyoAni branching out and being so busy, along with Haruhi's author putting out one novel in something like five or six years.
Meanwhile, the Miyakawa-ke no Kuufuku anime was by Ordet, which is run by several former KyoAni staff including Lucky Star's original director. And in Miyakawa-ke Aya still plays Konata anyway. At this point if Kadokawa wants more Lucky Star and KyoAni doesn't want to do it they can just take it to Ordet or elsewhere, which they kind of already have anyway.

First, some months before it broke, Aya said she was taking a break from work due to vocal cord injuries. Personally, I believe this to be an excuse to get her away from the company and media a bit while the scandal broke, which is why I'm starting here.
Then not long after there were some gossip columns about Aya carrying on relationships with some of her bandmates, including pictures of her laying in bed with one. So when the scandal broke she was fired. Meanwhile, she quit her talent agency and moved to another. This could've been unrelated, since it was claimed she was in talks to walk away up to a year prior, but the timing was still awfully suspicious.
So in the end, the scandal broke and she signed with another agency, but since then some fans have been concerned as to what this meant for her major roles, specifically Haruhi. Although not as much as in the immediate aftermath, when some thought her career was dead.
