Jun'you was first sent in June 1942 to the Aleutian Islands (in support of the Midway operation).
She was tasked with mission support.
But where Jun'you shined the most was during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
Reassigned to the 3rd Fleet of the Second Carrier Division with her sister ship Hiyou, she faced the US Navy in an aerial battle. Her aircraft scored hits against the aircraft carrier Enterprise and sunk the aircraft carrier Hornet.
