BTW, if the anime unfolds like this person's strips, it will be a terrible downer series, even if the audience already know only Yukikaze and Verny survived in the end

Actually, there are plenty of ships of IJN survived the war.
Nagato was one of such ship.
Yukikaze and Hibiki were the last ship of IJN got scuttled or dismantled.
I don't envy Nagato's (or Takao's or Hibiki's) eventual fate though. It's like being sent as a prisoner to the firing squad instead of going down fighting as they might have wished.

That's only if you think about them as ship-girls. Keep in mind, Nagato's CREW was able to safely disembark, and nobody was onboard when she got nuked. They all got to go home and have families. Compared to a lot of the destroyer girls, or the light carriers or the like that went down gloriously with 2/3rds their crew lost, it was basically always better to be on the crew of a big ship.

One year later, and it feels like the prediction will be true soon...

Didn't pan out. The anime directors seemed to have been unsure of what direction they wanted to take it in. Episode 3 did happen, but the rest... eh. Wasn't really anything of a 'downer series', overall.

The result are actually done in cooperation with Nagara and Uranami. Ayanami got sent to scout alone, but engaged the enemy with the other ships. Later Ayanami is scuttled by Nagara.USS Gwin?USS WashingtonUSS Walke?USS Benham?USS Preston?
