Is there a (hidden) message in the 4koma? If so, I'm missing it...

I think Shimakaze(1942) achieved being the fastest naval vessel of all time, and she wanted to tell it to her older sister Shimakaze(1920), The speed test happens on April 7, 1943, unfortunately her older sister sunk January 12, 1943 while Tenryuu sunk on December 18, 1942.

Shimakaze(1942) sunk on November 11, 1944 while Tatsuta sunk on March 13, 1944.

The WWII story of the IJN is pretty much dark and depressing.

Bingo. Shimakaze is calling her big sis about the good news, but her sister is already dead.

Tatsuta answered the phone, pretending to be Shimakaze's big sis, all the while grieving over Tenryuu's death.

I get what is the author is trying to communicate, but I think it can be delivered more effectively, maybe if the expressions are stronger

The REAL tragedy here is that the third Shimakaze commissioned into the Japanese Navy is not a speed freak in the least. Nosirree, she was happy to get up to only 30 knots but at least she has some nice Harpoon missiles.

They all went away too fast.

I guess that's the curse of the island breeze.

On 18 December 1942, Tenryuu was sunk. On 12 January 1943, the first generation Shimakaze was sunk.
Swift as Shimakaze Shimakaze's self introduction line. Parody of Art of War: "Swift as the wind, quiet as the forest, conquer like the fire, steady as the mountain".
    ...That's right.
When it comes to speed I won't lose to anyone. Swift as Shimakaze.
On 18 July 1942, the second generation Shimakaze was launched!!
    Yeah...
On 8 August 1941, Type C ship number 125 was laid down.
    Maizuru
On 7 April 1943, she achieved a record speed of 40.9 knots, surpassing the first generation's record of 40.7 knots.
    Shut up, Tenryuu.
    Shut up, Tenryuu.
Onee-chan!! Onee-chan!! I got the name Shimakaze too, just like Onee-chan!!
Tell the Tenryuu on your side that I became the number one in Japan!!
    Good for you!! Congratulations, C-chan.
In today's official engine overload test, I beat Onee-chan's speed record!! I'm the number one in Japan now.
You idiot, there's no way you could surpass the Japan number one Shimakaze.
Congratulations, C-chan... no, from now on it should be Shimakaze-chan, right.
I was just laid down today!! I'm much better than the other girls so I'll definitely be faster than Shimakaze-oneechan as well!!
Haaah!? She's seriously the second generation? The name of Japan's number one is wasted on someone like her.
