Actually yes it is, it's really called "adult reader and viewers" then Mature readers and viewers, back then when adult content was mature people they assume people would handle it and see it at a wise age of 18+ and understand the slang the jargon, and terms use in books and videos.
You can clearly tell that if someone would stand up and try to give a suggestive opinon about the age and story and you would know that he/she is a immature child and is too young to understand.
