Also lets not forget that the first ship became vice commander of NERV who stay cool even when the air conditioning is dead :P

If you check Evangelion's characters family name, you will find a lot of familiar names. Ayanami, Shikinami, Souryuu, Makinami, Akagi, Katsuragi (Unryuu class CVL, never went to war), Hyuuga, Aoba, Ibuki (Ibuki class CA, converted to cvl, never made it) and the vice commander is Fuyutsuki.
