    1917年3月31日　扶桑型戦艦二番艦・山城就役
    1919年3月31日　天龍型軽巡洋艦二番艦・龍田就役。先に進水していた天龍のほうが就役は後
    1926年3月31日　古鷹型重巡洋艦一番艦・古鷹就役。同時期、古鷹の建造された長崎造船所では青葉型（改古鷹型）重巡洋艦一番艦・青葉が建造中
    1928年3月31日　加賀型戦艦一番艦改め航空母艦・加賀就役。遡ること約3年前、建造中止となった加賀型戦艦二番艦・土佐が自沈処分
    1933年3月31日　暁型駆逐艦二番艦・響就役。暁型4隻のなかで最後に就役

    March 31 is a kind of 'birthday' for quite a few of the ship girls.

    Yamashiro (1917), Tatsuta (1919), Furutaka (1926) and Hibiki (1933) were all commissioned on March 31. Kaga's conversion into a carrier was also completed on March 31 as well, but she didn't join the fleet until the next year.

    On another note, I wonder if the portrait is supposed to Kaga and her incomplete (and later scuttled) sister ship Tosa?

    That cannot be a coincidence - it makes too much sense considering IJN construction plans between the wars.
