Basically the carrier they just couldn't kill. Yorktown and Hornet were just as hard to sink. Enterprise was just slightly luckier than her two sister ships.
USS Wasp, on the other hand, was just unlucky, getting hit by a massive torpedo spread just a short time after arriving in the Pacific.
Saratoga had a tendency to miss battles, by getting damaged by reefs and submarines, or just missing by needing to be refueled. Than later becoming a night fighting carrier.
Lexington was lost early on.
Langley had been converted to a seaplane carrier and was lost at Java.
And Ranger never went to the Pacific for the war. She was just not large enough to handle the amount of AAA that was needed to fight the Japanese airplanes.
The Essex-class and Independence-class ships did their thing well enough, but it was Enterprise that held the line in terms of carriers until they could arrive. Along with Saratoga that is.
Yukikaze however was never severely damaged. Enterprise was badly damaged and limped back to bases like six times.
US equivalent might be the USS Phoenix. It was the first ship to open fire during the attack on Pearl Harbor, inevtiably resulting in it becoming a priority target early on, and after the attack they found only a single BULLET had struck the ship and caused damage of any kind. The Phoenix was involved in every major battle of the Pacific, and suffered only two crew were ever killed in action. This Phoenix never needed to rise from its ashes.
Enterprise is more or less the equivalent of Shoukaku and Zuikaku combined. She has both's luck at times, but manages it better. She's a survivor, but gets hit hard several times in the war.
Still, the bane of 1st (and 2nd) Carrier Divisions. Rival for the 5th Carrier Division (later 1st) And it seems like the Americans will be joining the ranks in due time if the inclusion of the Iowa-classes 16 inch Mark 7 turrets in the near future is any indication. Enterprise could show up in some form. Given how famous she is...it may only be a matter of time.

Sadly, that luck failed to hold up after her name was changed.
