I'm guessing she left the mansion in something related to her past...since we have very little backstory on her officially, so this may be her returning and we get a glimpse of this artist's idea on what her past may really be. Or maybe just training and/or unspeakable incident?
(Former) assassin? Orphaned? Lost and brought to SDM as a child? A major debt? A visit to Erin's? Etc?

I don't believe Gomasamune really thought out the whole "Story" back then. It was mostly a faceless dude that got married to flandre and then he started playing Kantai collections so he started spinning the whole Admiral + Flandre thing and just using what he already had. So suspect this picture is more of a retcon if anything.
