I hate this kind of fanfiction with overpowered original characters that outperform all the actual canon characters in the series. It screams mary sue. In fact I think that's what a mary sue is.

Right. "Mary Sue", today I've learned a new term and discovered at the same time why (while not a fan fiction) I couldn't watch more than 2 episodes from that stupid crap called Elfen Lied.

But somehow it doesn't bother me here, quite the contrary actually. Maybe it's because unlike Touhou, everything is a fandom and anyone could be anything. Also Macho Admiral doesn't look as a M.Bison clone anymore.

Now that I think about it, all Dr. House series were on the edge (but not reaching it) of a Marty Stu itself.

What damasto said, in the very beginning against Inazuma and after against Tenryuu it is fairly clear that Matsuda can beat the shipgirls in close combat when they are in the land fit-out; but he has no chance in the sea fit-out or if they gun from far away.

I personally find it reasonable otherwise one would wonder what do you need humans anymore.

Basically, this series shows exactly why he's an admiral. He got the experience and the power to do so, and all wrapped up in his gentle personality. Sure, he might seem overpowering here, but he's not a Superman that cannot be wounded.

Accoding to tvtropes [link absent for protection] that story is meant to be a parody of Star Trek fan fictions where the main character (often an author avatar) was too perfect.

I agree it is well done character. However, even if it was played for laughs, Matsuda [post #1739581 (fixed thanks)] survived almost unscratched multiple 12cm cannons hits...

He played it like it wasn't anything big, but after Inazuma and Tenryuu left the infirmary he almost passed out from the pain, he's got a ton of stamina this one, but he still bleeds like a normal human. He also almost killed himself by overworking trying to get his idea of shipgirl mock battle training passed by the higher ups.

As I mentioned, he is quite well done and I disagree of calling Matsuda a Marty Stu. It works in a "comic book sense" and it is fine since this is exactly the point.

Also in the beach arc [post #1743171] he is incredibly heroic against the ri-class, but he admits that without the prompt help of Tenryuu and Yuudachi he could get defeated...

Alas (or fortunately) Tatsuta is simply not strong enough.
