This is a pretty accurate portrayal of what happened in that episode.

Which is pretty stupid since she only sent out three planes on screen again a freaking Naval district which surely would have to have more than enough defense or warning again air raid.
The whole episode is just a commercial to sell the point that there are kai ni in anime and Fucky would get it in the next episode because she is the main character.

Those planes appeared after the base was wrecked. I think that's the After-Battle scout. (Yeah, not in the game, but in real life WWII naval battles you'd have scouts doing after battle assessment of the enemy forces.)
The base looked more like it took one helluva shelling. Probably from a full fleet, seeing that all the base's shipgirls were in Truk at the time.
