    Why would Nasa hide that machine, and instead continue to build disposable rockets for 50+ years? Do they want to look technologically humble?

    Sovies probably had some manufactured at Groznyj Grad, produced for quantity, whereas americans would rather have the Super_Prototype. It's kinda analogous to socialism and capitalism
