Also, is that she can't hold the bow or, more top the point, pull a bow anymore? She can hold a knife, but may no longer have the strength our flexibility in that wrist to draw the bowstring.
I don't see why they didn't just reproduce and remodel Taihou's crossbow and give it to the rest of the CVs. Bows are so last century. It's all about automatic crossbows now.

Did some websearching because I was curious. Apparently the more common repetitive stress injuries to archers were to the shoulder or elbow - they'd manifest as a shaking hand if the weakness in those muscles/tendons/joints meant that just holding her unencumbered arm aloft was a strain.

She's right handed - that means she would draw the bow with that arm.... and she doesn't have the strength or control anymore thanks to the injuries sustained. I'm going to edit the note a tad.

You won't even need to really try to use it.
Said by someone who's apparently never held a bow or crossbow, much less used one. For one, Houshou the other carriers are kyudo practitioners which is why they're dressed the way they are. Second, crossbows, even the automatic ones, require quite a bit of leverage to operate the pull arm. It's not like loading a rifle, and either needs you to pull a lever with quite a bit of resistance repeatedly (for the repeating type) or to brace the thing on the ground while drawing the string back. Either way, she doesn't have the strength to do that anymore... or to hold it steady as she needs both arms.
Plus, she's an old light carrier. She just can't handle anything that new.
Under your logic, all the shipgirls should stop using their own equipment and carry the same rigging that Musashi does, because it's newer. Even the destroyers and submarines.
Hell, why bother with shipgirls? They're all using WW2 equipment, but cruise missiles and ship to ship missiles are far more modern. Just launch those by the dozen at everything, or nuke the Abyssal fleet from the air.

I also wonder why we don't just nuke the shit out the the Abyss but I'm going to assume that the Abyss might be like Godzilla and might come from because of nuclear weapons, since Japan is pretty big on the anti-nuclear thing. From the look of the Abyss weapons, most of theirs are much more advance compare to ours. Midway and Symbotics have 3x the health of even our strongest ships and their weapons are much more stronger than even our most advance prototype weaponry.

Short answer: shipgirls are magic, which is how they do the things they do. Arpeggio justified it by having the Fleet of Fog being extremely advanced, but KanColle doesn't say anything.
So Houshou and Akagi have bows to launch planes that work as well as Taihou and her crossbow. They can only do their magic with their issued equipment. And either way, Houshou is too physically damaged to go back out into the battlefield, which is why she says going to retire.
Except the Shitty Admiral had other plans. Wonderful plans.

Its not so much that, its more avoiding collateral damage. Sure nukes could get the job done, but at what cost? To put this in context lets take a star wars example (yes its Sci-Fi but it works well for demonstration). Ok so to eliminate an enemy off a planet you could nuke it to the stone age, but lets go over the collateral. Nukes would cause fall out killing almost everything on the planet, then the radioactivity and nuclear winter would cause any remaining life on it to die out. The planet would be inhospitable, and your looking at billions of lives lost, for one planet. Sure you could argue Deathstar/Starkiller base do the same, but at that point they dont care about collateral. Now the other method is Via Orbital bombardment through star cruisers. Does the job, but doesnt kill all life on it, only the ones you need plus some in collateral. The planet is still hospitable, and you can start a new base. Now imagine that with the abyssals. you could polute waters if it detonates below the sea level. Nuclear fallout would still be a problem. On the surface wind currents could carry it miles around. Freshwater, Fish, and seafood could become contaminated and toxic. Its just not worth it. The loss of life that comes with a nuke is the reason why we dont use it now, its too effective and cant tell friend from foe. It kills indiscriminately and uncontrollably.
No.It's...It's because I can't draw a bow anymore. You're transferring?I was already worn out and obsolete.Eh?No.But then why is it that Houshou-san has to move away!? If it's being a secretary ship, then Kaga-san and I will help out...Th-that's right! Is it your armament? If so, then it's alright. They said that they can repair and make it good as new. Then by any chance, because of our fault...?It looks like that (kai-2) from the other day was the final blow.
