This whole storyline suddenly explains a lot about Akebono in her series. Her combative attitude could be how she endured serving under the previous Horrible Admiral. She felt she had to be the strong one for the 7th DesDiv, the one who could endure his abuse, and so she got into the habit of covering for them to draw all the admiral's abuse onto herself.

Which can also mean something horrible has happened to Akebono before, since you know the asshole doesn't take bad attitude well...

Doubt it, as Takao only came after the shitty admiral we know was assigned. And Takao is level one here.
Plus, the fat bastard would have dismantled her as soon as she said something. Notice the lack of destroyers on the base, save for level 1 Yuubari.

...I am wondering if this is just a mistake or a joke. Yuubari is a Light Cruiser. Then again, she is more often seen with Shimakaze or developing things than with other Light Cruisers.

Both. I keep forgetting she's a light cruiser, given how often the fanbase has her hang with the destroyers. Or experimenting.

Well she is the smallest of the light cruiser (if I recall) and due to her experimental nature is more like a large destroyer before the Fubuki's arrived. She tends to be counted as if she was a large destroyer like the Fubuki more than a light cruiser. The plan as to have a smaller ship with a powerful engine that could have the firepower of the Sendai-class. They got Yuubari. That lead to Fubuki.

Eh? Yuubari is the smallest? I never knew that. I thought the 'closest' Light Cruiser to Destroyer was Tenryuu and Tatsuta? Which, as my friend put it, 'Destroyer, but bigger'.
Smallest Cruiser or smallest Carrier? I thought she was a Light Carrier...considering she uses one of the "scroll" type flight decks as opposed to the actual "flight deck" type.

Also doubt it. As Jarlath said, Takao is still small, and also Houshou has just quit being the secretary. Meaning Hyuuga's gonna first be the one, and Takao have to undergo her training before becoming Akebono's instructor. And since Akebono is Takao's first student... (but judging from this, Hyuuga might not be the secretary, Houshou seemed to have left it to Akagi and Kaga so more likely one of them, unless the admiral says otherwise) But that doesn't exclude Akebono having possibly a tough past maybe with another admiral or something(or just with the ones that made and raised her? Or well, as someone said, ship memories since she had it tough with the IJN in WWII)

She is, but by a small margin if I remember well... they're basically around the same size. But the Tenryuu-class were designed as Big destroyers indeed. (Yuubari is more of a lightweight Sendai-class? AS least they tried to keep the Sendai firepower into a smaller vessel)

Light cruiser. Yuubari is a Light Cruiser. Maybe you thought about Ryuujou? The smallest Carrier might be Houshou though, but not sure.
Ah right. For whatever reason, I was thinking the whole discussion about Yuubari was actually talking about Ryuujou because she was shown just a few pages ago on post #1962857 and was mistakenly thinking that's who everyone was talking about...
Oh?*Clack clack*Restaurant HoushouRestaurant [Houshou]And this is the restaurant that was specially permitted to be built inside the Naval Base in exchange for all her achievements in battle, as a secretary ship, etc, upon her half-retirement.
