The pride of the First CarDiv is in strength, not speed.
What strength is that? Horsepower? 127 verses 160,000 Air wing? Somewhere around mid to high 60s operational aircraft verses the low 70s for Zui( were the shit in game came from I have no idea) Armor? Zuikaku's belt was actually thicker over the magazines and the deck was thicker everywhere, and massively thicker over magazines. Though I suppose Kaga would've been harder to disable with cruiser caliber gunfire into the machinery... Guns? Well I suppose she did have a couple of cruiser caliber guns jammed in as an afterthought in pretty much the worst possible positions imaginable to even do their one completely improbable job.
Taken together though I suppose that could be used to class her as "stronger" assuming she can somehow get Zuikaku to agree to a suicidally close range gunnery duel (despite being way slower) so her horribly positioned and barely directed cruiser guns could actually hit and her overly thick belt could actually do something besides being a gigantic waste of tonnage.

I'm pretty sure Kaga is stronger than Zuikaku in-game at least stat wise.

It's just the usual Otakus vs History buffs arguement that you see over and over again in the Kancolle fandom. Yes, Kaga is stronger than Zuikaku. And these guys get mad at the fandom. If they hate it so much, complain to Kadokawa for not being "history accurate".

There's a term for that, we call them "The Stop Having Fun Guys". Or in simple terms "That Guy". I can understand though them being mad at people claiming to be experts that haven't even bothered to read up on their history. But to act like elitist pricks is another matter entirely. Then again said "experts" aren't innocent either insisting their headcanons are right.
I just tend to ignore these squabbles and play on.

The reason Kaga looks down on Zuikaku isn't because of Kaga's technical aspects, but rather crew skill. Zuikaku as a newer ship built expressly as a carrier (compared to Kaga, who was originally planned to be a battleship), has better stats from a ship perspective, but Kaga's pilots were skilled veterans compared to the crane sister's green pilots. Thats why Kaga's crew always looked down on the 5th carrier division and why Kaga is portrayed as the highest plane power of the carriers in game. In that sense, Kaga's "power" was higher than Zuikaku, since (for carriers) skilled crew and pilots is more important than ships specs.

If it were based upon historical competencies, Kaga should have 2 HP and 1 armor, because she could have historically been taken down by a loose cigarette. Her steering was taken out by a bomb that missed, and a single 500-pound bomb (which would bounce off most cruisers) started a massive chain reaction that sank her. (Compared to Shoukaku, who was hit multiple times over the course of the war, kept coming back, and was labeled as "unlucky" because she could survive a hit, as opposed to the rickety deathtrap that explodes in a strong wind that was Kaga. In spite of taking the least damage from enemy fire, the most people - 811 - died on Kaga of any of the Midway casualties, which is saying a lot. Did I mention that she was called the "Sea bird grill" because her venting system caused crew quarters to go over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, rendering half the crew quarters basically uninhabitable?)
Beyond that, even by the time of Midway, Kaga's vaunted elites were dying off from attrition due to war in China. Plus she wasn't as poor as Akagi, but she had a really terrible runway and many pilots died from simple inability to land properly or get rescued after emergency ditching.
If Japanese naval doctrine were smarter about these things, they would have shifted the pilots around instead of putting all their eggs in the most flammable basket. The only reason Zuikaku couldn't participate in Midway was because they didn't move Shoukaku's air wing to her due to this stiffness of demanding an air wing stay with their ship no matter what. For that matter, the Japanese didn't keep back any of its pilots to instruct the new generations as they replaced losses, directly leading to the problems that Zuikaku had later when trying to hold up the giant mess Kaga left behind.
Generally speaking, as ships, the Shoukaku-class was the only class of carriers that actually worked properly.

I never said Kaga was actually good. There were huge problems with her, probably due to her being a slapdash conversion of a battleship base. (she was originally supposed to be a battleship to succeed the Nagato class, but had to be converted for treaty reasons). There were also huge issues with the planning surrounding the 1st carrier division that led to their slaughter at Midway (all carriers, no heavy armor. lots of bombers, few fighters. poor AA equipment and no radar, etc). That said, for better or for worse (probably worse), Kaga and her elites were the backbone of the IJN's air power. The game represents ship reputation much more than technical specs. (I mean, Yuudachi wasn't actually any different than the rest of her class, yet she's represented as having the highest firepower of any destroyer because of her one insanely lucky torpedo volley)

I think you've got her confused with Akagi--only 3 Enterprise SBDs attacked her, while most of the SBDs from Enterprise attacked Kaga.
