Size is harder to determine from a distance, especially at sea, and the German heavy cruisers had roughly similar profile to Bismarck.

Actually, the artist just recently managed to LSC Bismarck after previously having Prinz Eugen, which explains the new Bismarck illustrations. Commission/launch dates notwithstanding.
