I am just laughing that they made her... hatsune_miku for the crossover.
    I find it amusing.

Now that we have both chrom and tiki, I seriously hope Atlus would at least some characters from Shin Megami Tensei to this game. I would like to see either the main character from Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne or both main character and that female character from Shin Megami Tensei IV.

You know, as much as I would like that... I want more details about the game first and formost. This has been one of the more interesting ways to do a crossover, merging the Mythos of the two and going in a different direction with what seems to be the plot and world-building....

Alas, it's is not nearly as straightforward as most where expecting (which to be honest, if anyone has played the mainline games and it's many spin-offs, that par for the course really). It's led to many... groaning over the internet. Maybe its the fact that the main characters are idols or something.

I can see that it's not really straightforward, but still it's interesting. I mean, Atlus released persona 4 dance all night, so why not? I know Persona series is spin-off to Shin Megami Tensei series, but if they can do that with persona, I would like to see some stuff to the main series.

Now that you bring that up, that does beg the question... SMT has been around for a while, and yet I have not known the mainline series to be anything but a set of RPG's. I wonder why they have kept to the status quo so rigidly?

Well, Megami Tensei series started with NES at 1987 and all these spin-off started in mid-90's after Shin Megami Tensei if on SNES, So it confused a lot of fans. But I still hope they'll put some megami tensei characters on this game.

It not really that, I am saying that since the series has started... they have never really broke out of the genre that it's established itself in. Even this isn't much of a departure when you look at it. Why stick to that? Or have I missed times when they have tried to do something different (and likely failed)?

I think that at this point, should you see SMT-based characters... don't expect them to look familiar.

that's true. I heard that the developers wont put any SMT characters in the game, and if that's true then it's kind of suck.

Because the Persona series sells better. MUCH better.

That's little shame though. I did play persona 4 little, but it didn't have have this SMT-ish feeling into it (yes, I'm aware it's spin-off to SMT). I hope in this cross over you could choose either good, evil or the neutral just like Shin Megami Tensei with law, chaos or neutral.

That is only really true for the two latest entries in persona and that more applies to P4 than it does P3 (and in the grand scheme of things, both games both here and in Japan are considered cult hits more than anything).

I haven't heard anything like that, and I have been sticking rather close to the newsreel on this game.

By the time that P4 hits, it's nearly completely divorced from SMT-proper, to the point that the Demons are more of a opaque reference than have anything to do with the story at large.

Neverless, I hope this game would be a smash hit.

That isn't going to happen really, to little volume on the install base to have an impact.
And personally speaking, that doesn't matter much to me... as long as the game is good.

Who knows? it would probably be a smash hit. Alot of people's asking nintendo to make new IP, so I think this could be good.

Because it's a "cross-up" I don't see much point in continuing this experiment after it's completed. But weirder things have happened. NamcoBandai basically sneaked in SRW-style gameplay in a more movable product with NamcoXCapcom and ProjectXZone, partly because of the licensing mess that is anime in the US. Marvel V. Capcom is a thing. Tatsunoko V. Capcom happened, despite a similar licensing nightmare with Tatsunoko properties.

If the game is good, maybe there is another experiment... Maybe Nintendo sees some worth in repeating this. I am not betting on that, nor do I think that they should when the game has yet to be released. A good game make it more likely, but I would just rather that it be a good game...

As far as new IP goes... I find that rather funny. The public (namely us on the internet, in the Neogaf's and so on) have some really selective memory. Take EAD... which is far more complex than some think. splatoon is the first new IP from that group in the last 13 years after pikmin, but EAD is NOT Nintendo as a whole... Inteligent Systems (Makers of Fire Emblem) has more or less created something new for nintendo about every two years. And that is not getting into other divisions, second-party companies (like NextLevel Games, Intelligent Systems, Game Freak, Retro Studios), other companies (among whom are NamcoBandai, Sega, Square Enix) that they partner with... Nintendo created new IP all the time, but few of them see a large marketing push... namely because a good majority of them are not worth that time and effort in scale (most are rather small games, or a real bitch to localize). The fact that most seem to miss this, is rather sad.
