So, they're normal humans in the United States of Abyssina? I'm kinda wondering why nobody notices the woman with the metal halo. They DID put all the people of Japanese descent in camps, you know...

And speaking of legacies of racism, I can't help but notice that they pick the movie set in a time of the end of the American slave trade...

Well it was probably the most famous movie that came out just before the war. The mess is odd here though. The shipgirls are very much stuck in the 1940 mentally here, even if their clothing is decidedly not 1940s (or even 2010s in the case of the two Tenryuus). While the place they are in is s mix of eras and possible non-research into the matter. Iconic things that people see in every shot of San Francisco or Los Angeles that did not exist at the time of the war (Transamerica Pyramid for example was finished in 1972).

It's not really America, so it doesn't count!

    Well...
There's so many different clothes on everyone!
    Just get going, you guys!
    Well! That's...
Wood-gas cars stop really quick, right? So you gotta push them around - it's muscle training, yeah...
The Abyssal Homeland is a movie Mecca, isn't it!
    Ah!
A moment of your time, Tenryuu-chan.
Don't they have a national dress or anything?
