Also, I used to live close to a place in New Zealand that specialized in the manufacture of imitation (and real) crab meat. Picked up basic Japanese hanging out with the crowds there. That's sad, because a lot of the fish used in the production of that imitation stuff is actually really good by itself.
Flavor-wise, the real one may not compare. But if you're looking for texture, then the imitation crab still has a long way to go. Unless the more expensive ones already done that.
