Glad the artist made that correction. I was thinking we were going somewhere we really shouldn't for a moment.
That's a normal technique to prevent the foreground character from being swallowed into a detail-rich background.
So thickly when there's only two solid colors, a smidge of text and half the width of a pole behind them is pretty weird.
