I get the feeling this is supposed to be a parody of something, but for the life of me I can't figure out what.

It's a direct reference to an old anime of mice-like characters who are lookin for their home, but they're all chased by those ferret like creatures (you even see some gore-ish scenes with blood).

I think its name is "Adventures of Gamba"
