Or she could just come as a bodiless head instead of a headless body.
Or they could do it like blew and attach, say, a turret as her head instead, while the real one flies around, nonplussed XD
Given Abyssal Jintsuu comes with a searchlight, I can imagine Abyssal Sendai bringing the Star Shells and Night Scout.

Anyway, these abyssal versions tend to be more a reflection of the actual historic battle than the shipgirls they are tied to, so you're more looking for The Battle of Empress Augusta Bay. (Considering what happened there, CL Water Oni might just be confused and constantly ramming other ships - the hastily-assembled IJN force was made up of anyone nearby and never traiend to work together, resulting in several collisions. This was even the battle where Hatsukaze suffered "Myouko-nee-san"'s deadly headbutt.) Star shells were a part of the battle, albiet ineffective parts, and I don't know if searchlights helped, either. The Americans, who actually had radar and IFF codes still managed to misidentify each other, themselves, and missed several opportunities for attacks due to being unsure if they were going to kill a friendly. Sendai was ultimately sunk by a pack of American destroyers using their standard 5" guns during the confused retreat.

An all-yasen map sounds like the perfect salt mine for the devs. The equips are mostly 'cause they come standard with Sendai K2 same as Jintsuu K2's searchlight. Plus, even more salt farming.
