Not familiar with Kancolle mechanics, but panel 4 seems to have a negative mood indicator. False Smiles?

That's the fatigue indicator, opposite to morale (sparkling). Occurs when you sortie your fleets many times without giving them some rest between them, reducing your ship's evasion and accuracy. It's more charisma establishment than a false smile, but NuiNui colletion fits better.

As someone whose default expression is a blank face, I can vouch for the difficulty of putting on a smile on purpose.

This is what I am reminded of.

In my case, it's during a hard day at work when every customers seems to have turned off their reading comprehension and empathy parameters.

Like that one instance where a customer asked me, "Is that shoeshine?".
I replied, "It's written on the box indeed...".
Then he replied, "If that bother you to help me, just leave that job."
I forced myself to smile thinking, "Well, if it is so hard to read, just leave..."
Then I resumed what I have been doing: picking up fallen boxes of detergent because a customer was autistic enough to pick the one at the bottom of the box tower.

People smiling for no reason is stupid anyway, it just looks fake and or suspicious. If there is one good thing about hard labor in a warehouse job it's that you don't have to pretend to not hate your job and many nights I can average about one sentence an hour.

"Okay" When told which truck to load.
    "Trucks full." When it's finished.
"Okay" When told the next one to work.

I agreed, probably works only in cafes and fast food chains... But not some places.

For a false smile it is pretty beautiful.

The 〇 are as eloquent as the mouth. Looks like the idiom [目は口ほどに物を言う] - The eyes are as eloquent as the mouth; i.e. you can tell a person's emotions from their eyes as well as how they talk.
Shiranui-san... You may not be too happy but, let's not allow that to show in your attitude, and work with a smile, all right?
    It's showing...
