What the heck is Hiei holding? Because I don't think you're supposed to wash the rice with either one of those things...

I think that's a toilet brush she's got. Looks like she's just exasperating in general rather than just being that way in front of Admibro.

Nah, that's a pot-scrubbing brush. And she's got washing-up liquid on the left.

Whatever those are, I can see how Kongou started to want a kind of rice you don't have to wash.

Alright somebody get her away from the cleaning and bathing supplies. That should be a decent start.

You gotta give her props for trying though. Good intentions, needs direction.

It's the rice I use. Can't be bothered washing my rice when I want some. Not even that much more expensive.

You still need to wash the rice even if you use a rice cooker though.

Yea, one time I made my rice without washing it by accident and I ended up with some weird aftertaste.

I do it out of habit, even with expensive rice. Mind you, I think Hiei would think that dish soap is added for flavour with any rice she cooks.

That, and it turns into one large clot if you don't wash the regular stuff.

I used to wash my rice, but I don't anymore. I honestly don't taste a difference. Using Jasmine btw.

When she say wash she doesn't mean literally wash it with soap, Hiei.

Haven't actually tried not washing it, so I'm somewhat curious on the taste.

If the rice you bought is of the supermarket package variety already in plastic wrapping, washing makes little difference in taste.

For the majority of places in SEA though, the rice is often those bought from the local market stalls and other places that sell rice direct from the sacks and displayed in open air, in which case washing the rice is *very* important in order to remove dirt, bits of husks, insects, small stones etc. that may have gotten in between the grains.

Well, washing rice in Japan is generally done to remove the surface starch - which will change the taste. This is separate from the cleaning that is done at the rice packaging facility before bagging.

The rice that I buy has already had it's surface starch removed - if you wash it, the water will barely change colour, while normal rice will make it go pretty white.

All this arguing about Hiei now makes me hope that kouji's TTK is in a long distance relationship with nagomi's fabulous TTK

Yup. Plus the starch makes it more likely the rice will stick together instead of being fluffy and loose as it acts like a glue.

I think Hiei needs more help than Kongou can provide.
