Its kind of bizzare to have Houshou visit Mikasa. She´s almost old enough to know her personally.

And Kongou is even older than Houshou!

Actually the ship was only struck in 1923 so theoretically there was a tiny period of overlap. All the BB that aren't Yamato are even older and overlapped as well.

Kongou is actually the oldest ship in the game by a fair margin. There was another image showing a young Houshou with a biplane that implied Kongou was taking her picture that I found an amusing reminder of the fact Kongou is pretty much a full decade older. Combined with her obsession with the Admiral kind of makes you wonder how she was able to dodge the Christmas cake characterization.

Mikasa was built at the same yard as Kongo, if I recall correctly. Just about a decade earlier.

It's a nice place to visit, if you're in the area. You can go through pretty much the entire ship, too. (bar the engines and stuff).

Seconded this. Had my visit during the anniversary celebration of a war that i forgot, and we had JMSDF band playing music onboard. Absolutely nice.

They had amazake for every visitor when I went, since it was around New Years - got dressed up in a Admiral's outfit, too. And since it's Yokosuka, gotta have real Navy Curry afterwards.

After the translation makes you kind of sad Taiwan had be a dick about Yukikaze. By the the time she ended up wrecking the historic value was seen and Japan wanted her back as a war memorial, but Taiwan was an ass about it out of what looks an awful lot like spite. I'd rate that up there with scraping Enterprise and Warspite as historic travesties involving WWII naval vessels.

From what I remember, It was Admiral Nimitz that saved Mikasa from the breakers after WW2 concluded. Aside from Japan's desperate need for scrap metal, Mikasa also had to deal with the Russians wanting to see her destroyed for her role in the Battle of Tsushima.

Kongou would have all sorts of feelings about seeing Mikasa. After all, Kongou's the last ship purchased from Britain, and Mikasa is her predecessor in almost every sense, as Mikasa was made by Vickers at Barrow.

Why would Taiwan ever allow that ship to return to Japanese fold though? Think about it. 1970 was when the diplomatic recognition was switched over to the PRC, and the old wounds among the rank and file of the mostly mainlander KMT party cadre still bore heavy resentment toward Japan and all. The whole 'typhoon wrecked her' proved a convenient way to close the chapter on the ship.

Exactly they were being petty dicks, they pretty much destroyed a historic relic out of spite over decisions that really had nothing to do with it. I understand their (stupid) reasons for doing it, but that doesn't make it less of a travesty against history.

The Battleship Mikasa was decommissioned under the Washington Treaty, and was able to escape from the threat of being scrapped countless times.
There's not a great number of memorial ships in the world, so it's precious!
Even though Yukikaze was scrapped in the end... She didn't sink!!
I wonder why she said it twice?
    MIKASA
Today, I went with Houshou-san and Kongou-san to Yokosuka's Mikasa Park to play! Yukikaze
I'm so surprised that there's this much left after so long!
That's amazing! But Yukikaze didn't sink either!
