I would beg to differ, other then a select few pieces that Aya herself called out on the rest is truth and should be treated as canon

Is it non-canon because it's written by Aya, or do you mean the non-ZUN artwork makes it a fanwork?

If ZUN says it's an official work, it's an official work, even if he has no input other than declaring it canon. Of course he will always have more input than merely declaring a work to be canon, since he'll write the story (side games, manga, LNs, etc.), and possibly produce an OST for it (e.g. SSIB).

Generally, side stories in Touhou canon can be classified as "official work even though someone other than ZUN drew the characters" -- or, in the case of the fighters, "official work even though someone other than ZUN drew the characters and wrote the software code"

It's written by Zun and canon, stop being in denial about fucking everything that is not a main game.

It's canon. You just have to remember that it's written from Aya's perspective, which isn't that different when you consider that PMiSS or SoPM are also canon, though they were written from Hieda no Akyuu's perspectives.

Edit: Eh, derp. I forgot Aya already written one like this way back - Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, the very first official Touhou book ZUN published way back in 2005.

Official doesn't equal canon. There's plenty of official works out there that are non-canon, one piece movies and dragonball GT in particular. The only things that are canon in touhou are the main games that Zun makes himself. The rest of it is fanservice. (no, not that kind of fanservice)

It's a question of integrity: how many people had their fingers in the project and how deep? Touhou at it's core was made by only one guy, Zun, so that makes the whole series his and his alone. Any other creative input invalidates the work as strictly his and thusly makes it non-canon. It's like that one painting of jesus that got defaced by the old lady, that painting can no loger be said to be what the original artist intended.

Not saying you can't enjoy the sideworks, I'm just saying you shouldn't take them so seriously. Especially one that's looks like it's taking the piss out of donald trump.

By that account, wouldn't that mean Wild and Horned Hermit is official but non-canon, in spite of the fact that ZUN wrote the entire script for the manga?

This is the whole Momiji is not Aya's loyal dog that contradicts the fanon taught all over again..
