She's a juicy target. She can't fight back without blowing her cover, and she's got the potential for the duality of "publicly, I must act like I am above this" and "privately, I love all this belligerent sexual tension we've created, and also I will kill you if you cross me". It's exemplified in these last two panels, where she acts sweet, and pretends to have learned her lesson, but she's giving off a dark vibe that tells you there's an "or else" involved if you make the wrong choice...

I don't see how different this is from Hidefu picking on Aya in his touhou doujins. In fact, he even goes on to say Aya was his favorite character which is why he picks on her. I suspect it's probably close to Hammer's reason for picking on Kasen.

I can understand liking to pick on characters. It's very therapeutic, much more so if you pick on a character you like. I mean if I had the capacity for it, I'd love to draw a series like this but with Okuu or Nishikinomiya-senpai.

I googled it. Basically, it's when someone with an expected archetype acts completely out of character for that archetype, and it somehow feels very charming.

It seems to be Hammer's preferred topic, actually. Like when Youmu, a naive and serious girl who's exceptionally trusting, starts seducing vegetables like a deviant; or when peppy, confident, and charming Marisa gets shy and self-conscious because she's talking to the guy she likes; or when a simple-minded weakling like Rumia acts like a cunning seductress with an ulterior motive; or when Enigmatic, Magnificent Mastermind Yukari acts meek and submissive.

I guess that's why Yukari was Hammer's poster girl for such a long time. Heh. "Gap" moe.
