But now that the idea's been presented, it's relatively easy to force connections:

Add to that the parallels between animals gone savage and magical girls turned witches: Both transformations involve loss of sanity and being reduced to primal instincts or destructive desires.

And then you have Nick who resembles Homura/Kyoko (joined the scouts but turns cynical after unpleasant experiences) and Judy who resembles Madoka/Sayaka (determined idealistic newbie of the police force who's brought to the verge of disillusionment). Incidentally, they all get paired up with their counterparts (Nick-Judy, Homura-Madoka, Kyoko-Sayaka).
