Either I'm not familiar with old maid or I only played a whole other variant of it. I don't remember it being a game of completing a set of cards.

Interesting, she combines old maid with poker. This might even be a thing, right?

I think at first you play it like an old maid but instead of matching the cards like usual, you instead create poker hands consisting of five card from the cards you have. if you have cards you don't want, you just have to trade with another player to rid the cards in hope of creating a better hand. Then after creating those different types of hands, you pick one from them. Then you use it to play the usual poker game. After each game you use another hand again to play for the next poker match until you run out of cards.

It's interesting to think about how that type of game would plays out. It must be a mind boggling experience to say the least

The point of Old Maid is to make a set of 4 cards (a number/face card composed of its 4 suits) and remove them from your hands. Naturally, since a 52-card deck has 13 sets in total, we throw in the Joker card (aka the Old Maid) to create the chance that a player is left with a card that cannot be matched up.

Cirno's just being Cirno and mixing the "set" criteria with Poker's.

Note: Normally, all the cards are evenly distributed to all the players. Some house rules only distribute around 7-10 cards per player, leaving the rest in a deck at the center. The player then has a choice of whether to draw from the deck in the center or pick a card from the other players. The rest of the game plays out normally. Decking out does not cause any special mechanic - it just means all the possible sets are now in play.

    a set of 4 cards

Yeah, around here we play it by matching only two (or more, if available) same number/face cards and discard it, so I didn't consider it as collecting.

The last koma seems to be a parody of so-called tan'yao ASCII art.

    WRONG.
    To complete
Then put your cards on the desk.
ReiMari, teach me how to play Old Maid.
After the cards are distributed, you pick a card from the player next to you in turns.
    What, you don't know!?
    So, is it complete?
If the cards are complete, put the cards on the desk.
    I see, I see
    It's complete.
