Oh ya, recently the Taiwanese have some sort of obsession with moe when it comes to mascots and the likes. Not to say its a bad thing, but you won't be expecting it outside of Japan. <-stereotyping

I appreciate you trying to make the translation match the Japanese more literally, but it doesn't work grammatically. That's why I used the phrasing that I did.

Hmm, they look a bit like Kantoku style from a distance. Didn't know they have this kind of thing in Taiwan too.

When I read "the particulars", I think "the details", so that still doesn't make sense to me. I'd considered "the authorities", but authorities of what? Perhaps "among our sources"?

...I'm sorry, where did you get "the details"? When I said "particulars", I meant "a particular group of people", which in this case, mean people into cuteness or moe or stuff like that.

When I read "the particulars", it means "the details" to me, as in, "Tell me the particulars of this situation." I've not heard it used to mean "a particular group of people". However, I looked up more usage of the relevant Japanese phrase and discovered it can refer to a certain person or people who wish to remain unnamed for some reason, such as "sources in the White House" or "a source who wishes to remain anonymous".

Because that's how English works. Moot point anyway, since その筋の人 refers to "a particular source(s) of information", with the implication that the source (who is a person) prefers to remains anonymous (otherwise you would just name the source directly).

Trust Moonspeaker on this one. Sense-for-sense translations (like Moonspeaker's) are better in this case compared to a pure word-for-word one, even if the grammar for the latter is fixed.

Huh...That does make sense...I guess particulars doesn't really cut it translation wise...

So, how should we change the translation? "It's well known amongst particular types of people for a certain reason"? I don't really how to translate 「その筋の」 without sounding too awkward, which is why I picked "particular".

Or maybe "Birds of a feather flock there for a certain reason"?

Moonspeaker's current note is fine as it is. You don't have to match up the grammar exactly when translating if it interferes with conveying the general meaning of the passage.

That's the thing...I don't know where Moonspeaker got "famous amongst our sources". It says that the place is famous for people who into "that", or the cute, 2D stuff.

Sorry to have indirectly raised such a fuss, but thanks for summing up better than I could, NNescio.

TwinLeadersX, I appreciate you looking out for me, regardless. You've certainly managed to catch and legitimately fix several errors I've made. Knowing when to be more liberal for readability and when to adhere more closely to the original text isn't always an easy thing to decide, which is why I keep practicing.
