It does seem excessive. You could easily search by character. It seems like people are just pooling by whatever the title is, even if the strips feature the same characters in the same continuity, which makes more sense to keep pooled together. (In particular all the "Admibro" series strips, which are divided into about a dozen pools depending on whether it was Ooi, Haruna, Hiei, 6th DesDiv or other girl-centric.)

We currently have 27 Kouji (campus life) pools, including a pool with exactly one image. (Prinz pool.) I don't see a good reason why a few of these pools can't be consolidated when they're basically 3-4 big overarching series.
