Any more details on the men floating face down / women floating face up? I can't think of any reason why that would be the case.

I couldn't actually make that first one out, either. So I went looking for rivers connecting to Tokyo Bay -- since that's where she'd clearly been stated to be, and a river seemed a likely midpoint between canals and the sea -- and identified the squiggles retroactively.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: handwritten kanji are an absolute Goddamned menace, even worse than Spider-Man.

Apparently, it's mostly folkloric. The scientific gist seems to be that the concentration of body fats and a lower center of gravity in female corpses might make them more likely to float face-up, but there are too many other factors to call it a solid rule.

Ah cool, I knew it was a river but I couldn't figure out what river it was. Smart move to check a map of Tokyo Bay. Never would have thought of it.
