You stole Akebono's thing, Sazanami. And you did it poorly too.

    Akebono is the best miko.

To be fair, I don't think they're going to encounter a lot of guys who aren't their Admirals.

It would be awesome if she'd retort with something like that in the next post, but it will probably just be the usual tsundere stuff.

Thinking about it...do these shipgirls actually know any other male who isn't the Admiral?

Captains and/or Corporals? In real life, the entire fleet is usually subdivided and the lowest of Destroyer classes usually answered to anyone that actually wasn't the highest up the ladder. Usually the big guys got to play around with the Battleships or Carriers.

You can actually hear hints of his in the dialogue themselves as alot of Battlships can Carriers use the word "Teitoku" and Destroyers tended to use "Shirekan".

There are some exceptions though. Kirishima for example uses Shire. But most girls do tend to follow this example.

I don't think we've ever actually seen one, but to be fair we haven't seen allot of the base either I think like at least half this takes place off base or in the dudes apartment, and when it is on base it's basically always his office. I mean you'd THINK a naval base would have more staff then one dude, because frankly I don't see the vast majority of the girls being very good at clerical and staff work.

Ships had captains, but they're shipgirls whose rigging s crewed by fairies. They only need high command for their bases and fleets.... which is the player who acts as Admiral.

In-game, everyone is either a shipgirl or a fairy. (And fairies are all female, too.) This is pretty deliberate, as even the "Mission girl" became Ooyodo and "Store girl" became Akashi.

Very few of the doujins and fan comics actually introduce male staff members (usually mechanics), and those are almost universally so as to introduce secondary couplings, or else to have faceless mooks try to rape a shipgirl. It's actually more common for there to be a different admiral pop by (which this comic does). Most of the time, it seems that the whole military structure is just "Senior staff/TMM > Admiral > Shipgirl".

The game really means nothing because it's full on abstraction, about the only thing that could be classed as consistently canon is the ship girls personality how anything else works outside the context of the game is basically open to wild interpretation, but it makes almost no sense to be using your tiny pool of unique and non-expandable shooters for routine support functions. At the very most a nation might have some hundreds of ship girls and in critical areas like battleships and carriers it could well be less then a dozen.

Using them for anything BESIDES combat operation would be beyond even something like having a fully qualified SEAL stationed in Afghanistan to run a mess line peeling potatoes and shit.

As if the crew on a warship and a guy to point in a direction is all it takes to function. Just quickly rattling off:
    -Base construction and maintenance
-Materiel transport overland, air, and sea
-Logistic in terms of tacking needs, shipments, availability etc
-Technical sections for analysis of enemy equipment and development of of your own
-Intelligence sections to analyze enemy objectives, tactics, tendencies, etc
-Liaisons to coordinate activities with other military and civilian authorities
-Public relation operations for dissemination of important information and of course propaganda
-And probably more I'm missing besides

There are a grand total of three ship girls that would vaguely fit into these roles, but three people aren't even CLOSE to enough to constitute these sections on a continuing basis or do everything that would need doing and there is little indication faeries would be smart enough to undertake many of these high level planning and analytical operations, maybe they could handle the physical labor of upkeep of bases.

And forget using actual ship girls for any of this, that's absurd waste of capability unless you're in a universe that allows duplicates and you've staffed these commands with an army of clones that never sortie anyway.

You know, the military laments that contractors do the potato peeling nowadays, because potato peeling was useful as a punishment...

But anyway, putting that aside, there is so much about KanColle that makes no sense from a practical and even pure physical possibility standpoint that focusing in on this is a little silly. After all, if this is the core of a nation's military, why do they only get any supplies based upon their performance in things like AA training exercises, to the point where destroyers are essentially left on permanent demonstration duty to pay for the upkeep of the battleships?

What matters is how this artist interprets it, and by a broader extension, how the greater fanbase interprets it, and they generally take the game at its word that naval bases are basically an apartment building where Admirals are the manager/superintendent who also gets to furnish the rooms.

If people even acknowledge the necessity of any of those tasks you mention, then that's simply something that fairies take care of. (Except "Public Relations" and "Civil Liason" - that's all Aoba in her "free time" outside of missions and being omnipresent to photograph everything every shipgirl does all the time.)
