Actually a lot of characters, at least those who can see/hear spirits, refer to Ami as a beautiful woman. But yeah, there's a lot of human Amaterasu artwork, and moe anthropomorphism is not exactly new. Hell, a friend and I are working on a project to make an anthropomorphism of the various religions (because we realized we weren't going to Hell fast enough).
Am I the only one who thinks she looks a bit like a he? Not much, but at first glance, and if you weren't familiar with the series, you would think it's a guy for a couple of seconds.
The scapulae look vaguely masculine, and I guess you could make some arguments about the latissimus dorsi, ribcage, or pelvis to some extent. I'm not an expert on sexual dimorphism in humans, though.
People have a tendency to see things differently. I'm just saying that the first time I looked at the picture my first impression was a guy, but when I got a closer look, I started noticing slight differences. Basically she looks like one of those girls who, with the right clothes and adjustments, could pass off as a guy. That and her breasts are kind of small, but due to her pose, it's not hard to realize what they wouldn't be as pronounced as they normally would.

i have to disagree with the ribcage and pelvis parts. the shading on the pelvis actually are defined pretty well to show they are child bearing hips. and the ribcage seems rather too long to be considered masculine.

I think she looks less feminine like most other Ammy work. Which.. makes me happy :D I don't like people portraying her as a really girly girly looking woman. (With the big sparkly eyes, boobs hanging out of her dress, shortest dress in the world etc.) I see her much more like this. She has a more older and wise appearance to her. Tomboy even. Even though this piece could be argued as sexual as well as artistic. xD
