She's probably letting it go. What she's waiting for is a day to remember fondly of the past.

The problem with high school love is that both parties haven't quite figured out what they want in their partner. I think the best way to tackle early romance is just to be causal about it and focus on the experience rather than the end game, but is hard to imagine that your first love isn't "real" when you don't have other experiences to compare it to. I guess heartbreak isn't avoidable even for the best of us.
