Oh what the hell? Baader meinhof does its thing again.
I've just had those yesterday. Was baffled as to why they kept the seaweed and the rice separated.
Also, ripped my seaweed in more places than one.

The rice and the seaweed was separated to keep the seaweed crispy and not soggy (some people liked it soggy tho, me included). The correct way to peel open this kind of onigiri is by pulling down the tab in the middle, in this pic it's that white one-until you reached the bottom of the triangle. Then pull the remaining plastic on the sides, keeping the nori in contact with the rice.

    Yeah, thanks.
Though, my mother got there first. She lectured me on why it's separated and how to untangle this alien-tech consumable.
I am now armed with the right knowledge to devour my next riceball flawlessly.

She's too rooted in traditional ways to look for the numbered instructions.

Well ya silly carrier, you wrap the nori back, hold it using the plastic and nom away.

... that is IF the nori didn't exactly tear and stuff.

I figured out how to open this packaging the first I saw them. I never knew that the nori is actually on a separate layer until my mother did exactly what Houshou did here.
