Honestly, I'm a massive Knight Rider fan (I have been since I was little), but I've never been able to keep track of where things were on KITT's dashboard. Even though I know that that part in the screenshot is above the steering wheel, I always imagined it as being, like, where the radio is in normal cars. Even though there's plenty of other stuff there already. And I was able to make that mistake because, as you pointed out, they always zoom in on it whenever it's relevant- zoomed in so close that you can't make out any surrounding details, which means that you only know where it is if you catch it in a shot where it isn't relevant (which is pretty difficult, since you aren't really looking out for it and you've probably already made your own assumptions about where it is) or someone else points it out to you. I'm pretty sure it was the latter for me. Which is why I was only 90% certain. I wasn't looking closely enough to notice that iconic part, especially since, again, I was kinda assuming that it was behind Kaban's arm there.
