Considering both guns served in WW2 while the SMLE (SMLE like the kar98 went through a lot of modernization by the time WW2 started just like the French Lebel and berthier) is wee bit older but the first gen kar98 also served in WW1, kar98k calling lee-enfield auntie... Hmmm

well, the Lee Einfield MLE came out in 189X along with the Gewehr 1898(which i guess you can call kara's mom), SMLE came out in 1904, while the Kar98k that's shown here came out in 1935 so i guess auntie does make sense...i guess
the Mk III of Lee Enfield was quite the sexy gun and its actually quite interesting that G98 hasn't appeared to diss the crap out of Kar98 which should be essentially her but better

On another note which corresponds with the comments above. There were a crapload of "Kar 98s" pre Kar98K as the German Empire made cavalry carbines out of the Gewehr 98 IE the Kar 98, 98A and the odd looking Kar98AZ. There was also the very rare Kar98B which was a Gewehr 98 with different sights, a side mount sling, and a turned down bolt handle w/ recess for said bolt. Funnily enough about the 98B is it was just a full length Gewehr 98 with the Kar name given to comply with the Versailles Treaty/Revenge plan lol.
