There's a lot of fanmade yuri of these two these days... is it that kind of show?
There is an episode (in which they are wearing these same outfits) where a "Cupid Bee" stings a bunch of people, and Diana gets stung by it while in proximity to Akko. So something yuri sort of starts, but it is arguable whether it was purely a result of the bee's spell before the effects wear off.
Originally, she was going to be paired with Andrew Hanbridge. However, after internal debate, they nixed that idea on the basis that Akko would have then been doing magic not for her own sake, but for someone else's. So, she really doesn't pair up with anyone- she more earns their respect as she goes through character development. You can see this with both Diana and Andrew. So, no, it isn't that kind of show... it's about Akko chasing her dream of becoming a great witch like her idol, and learning about herself- and said idol- in the process.

I read about this ages ago, but it was an interview with someone on the staff of Trigger. Not sure where said interview was posted, it's been too damn long since I read it.
