She looks like a clutzy type, but I like that her outfit has shorts instead of a skirt.

Although the Americans said the shots came from Chikuma, and the Japanese had claims from both Kongou and Yamato on her. It'd be amusing to see Yamato try and saddle up, asking her to confirm shots on her to prove she's "not just a hotel", and having Kongou trying to deny it, while the flustered new girl wonders why she's in a place where everyone's fighting over who got to kill her.

On the one hand yeah another blue eyed, blondie with watermelon in her shirt, but... on the other hand I actually like the clothing design allot, so I'm willing to look past that a bit. I'd give it a B-, knock like two off the cup size and I'd give it a B.

The cruiser were much closer, fired much more rapidly, and beyond that at various times up to three of them were engaging her simultaneously at ranges as short as 10-12,000 yards. They had already scored hit minutes before the fatal damage. Attempts by some people to try and salvage the overall lack of performance of the Japanese BBs not withstanding the cruisers are the far more likely killers.

The evidence on Yamato hitting Gambier Bay from what I've read stem from clusters of heavy splashes from 6-shot salvos as reported by eyewitnesses and damage reports- the hits that fatally damaged Gambier Bay were reportedly from large caliber rounds, some hits were claimed to have overpenerated. Then again, eyewitness under combat and no photographic evidence of the damage makes it unreliable observation.

The 6-shot salvo argument is due to the fact Chikuma had 8 forward barrels, but could only fire 4 straight forward, for one turret was backwards facing and another was well behind the superfirng forward 2 turrets, unless she was coming from 35 to 45 degrees angle in which she could bring all of her forward guns to bear.

And there's the cross-referencing of the timing of Yamato firing and the 6-shot salvos landing.

This gives the Yamato some claim to credence. But meh.

I get the impression they really want to save her. Maybe they want to do something different with her (people are complaining that too many of the foreign ships are blondes, so maybe Enterprise won't be?), while the direct rival games like Warship Girls and Azur Lane are tripping over themselves to throw Enterprise in their initial lineup.

To use Fire Emblem Heroes as an example, Ike was one of the most popular characters in the poll before the game began, but he wasn't put into the game until about half a year in. A lot of the initial characters had real balance problems, and haven't aged well unless they have had new weapons added after the fact, unless they were accidentally overpowered and defined the game's meta like Hector or Reinhardt. The art quality has also gotten much more consistent than characters like Arthur. Saving Ike for later let him be much more powerful and special and that he arrived after the devs had a good sense of the game balance and how not to disturb it too much.

That said, it's not like Kantai Collection isn't a mature game by this point.... Maybe they want to unveil her in some sort of promotion to the west?

I recall people attempting to claim that black smoke billowing from the CVEs was proof that the IJN BBs had scored hits, as "confirmed" by one of only 2 spotter aircraft the Japanese had during the battle. Of course this spotter was many kilometers away, and despite claims that the smoke had to from hits, because smoke generators produced white smoke, they were shut down pretty quickly when it was immediately pointed out that diesel and bunker oil injected into the stacks and fireboxes directly is what produces the emergency black smoke used in emergency smoke screens.

Wondering how she holds her weapon when deploying/landing aircraft - given the position of the trigger and stock it looks like she'd have to dislocate her wrist to get the flight deck level.

Trying to judge shell size by splashes has a long, long history of being nearly impossible. There were also multiple easy ways for six shot groups to originate from the cruisers (for a start both Haguro and Chokai have six guns forward)

That said large shells were probably landing near the ship, they were 14 inch shells from Kongou; clear of smoke and rain, miles closer, and reporting engaging her on and off throughout the period in question.

some hits were claimed to have overpenerated.

A six inch shell could over-penetrate, the ship had a mild steel hull with no armor whatsoever. Many, many overpentrations were reported from shells of all sizes as the Japanese continued firing AP throughout the action assuming they were shooting at armored CVL. The stupid choice to use super long fuzes for underwater trajectory only making it even worse.

Then again, eyewitness under combat and no photographic evidence of the damage makes it unreliable observation.

There are plots and a rough timeline that weigh badly against it, just for a start for most of the critical period from about 8 to 8:20 when the Gambier Bay was being pummeled Yamato was steaming AWAY from the action as he was paced by torpedoes on both sides.

This image shows the situation just before the cruiser found the range and started really mauling the ship ship clearly. That site in general has the entire battle broken down into a timeline by first hand reports and plots of the action, it's extremely good all around.

Anyway as you can see Yamato is withdrawing away from the action at this point, being literally THE furthest ship from the carriers at this point, oh she also has no line of sight past haze and rain. Indeed when interviewed after the war a man on her bridge at this time outright stated the carriers were NOT visible. At around 8:20 They attempted to fire on a target by radar in a kludged up system that the same officer said they had zero confidence in.

The Heavy Cruiser line meanwhile is charging foward at top speed and rapidly closing the line with the entire formation more or less concentrating fire on the increasingly straggling Gambier bay, Kongou is also positioned to fire with some effect and reports engaging it.

Kongou might have a claim, but the reality is that the cruiser line that is closer, firing far more shells, and has already scored multiple hits by this point has to be given the much higher probability weight IMO. Yamato isn't even really in contention here IMO.

It is as I said, basically a delusional scenario that people that want the IJN BBs to have been more effective then they were hold onto. It's very hard to conclusively disprove at this late date, but it makes almost no sense going by the preponderance of evidence.

That said I don't even blame them that much, the fact was the effect of BB gunnery was ALWAYS overestimated IMO. Replace the Japanese BB with say the four South Dakota and I doubt the outcome would be hugely different if they were commanded and moved exactly the same way. Wartime expereicne pretty well showed that hitting anything maneuvering violently with a BB at even 20,000 yards was approaching crap shot status, beyond that it was literally rolling dice.

Unguided shells really are a very shitty anti-ship weapon in the grand scheme of things really.

And there's the cross-referencing of the timing of Yamato firing and the 6-shot salvos landing.

This gives the Yamato some claim to credence. But meh.

The timeline doesn't match at all actually. Yamato is running away and then turning around during most of the critical phase. Yamato only reports engaging a target detected by radar that based on the circumstances is probably Gambier bay at about 8:20 AFTER the the engine rooms are already flooding uncontrollably.

Yamato inflicted minor damage from near misses on White Plains at the start of the action, that's pretty much all she did.

That's advice they should have followed with japanese ships instead of blowing their load and reducing themselves to largely unlimited DE works for japanese boats while heavily rationing non-jpn ships. AL can actually do such a thing with the big name ships yet to be released (Nagato class, Yamato class, Iowa, etc) in it.

Yoshinori's likely been busy with stuff like Shimakaze's new art, Sushi K2, and whatever else they might have him be doing. Akira's likely cheaper too.

Event Reward/Drops do not have to be related to the Event Motif. Even past ones weren't always related to their respective Events.

I find it surprising that from all Taffy 3 Ships, we got the Carrier Escorts first.

I am kinda expecting John C. Butler will showed up first at least. When Johnston, Heermann, Hoel and Sammy B coming, the base will be quite lively.

(and Hopefully Ido will get Gambier soon, it will be interesting to see Gambier in 4-koma)

Well in those games foreign games aren't super limited niche like in KC and I feel KC sort of pidegon holes foreign ships because of how much variety japanese ships get and a need to stand out. In short it's a case where KC's overemphasis of japanese ships is biting them in the ass (that and the DE spam they've been reduced to)

US ships in AL has some uniformish bits, Langley being an obaloli teacher, Bogue being a baseball carrier, etc. YMMV on how one likes the designs but one can't deny they mix things up.

Then again, "variety" in the US Navy can be a bit of a losing proposition. There were more Essex-class carriers than Fubuki-class destroyers during the war!

I think even if we limit it to well-known ships in the class, we still got quite a lot of them.

It's because it's the US. Having more variety of people, quirks and etc that it is important they'll look unique.

At least Azur Lane done that right and perhaps WSG.

I also had high hopes that Kantai Collection will be released in English for the West, with Enterprise as the starting gift to join in with the usual "Starter Five" shipgirls.

But now I doubt it'll happen, since Kadokawa Games refused to release this popular and most VPN'd web browser game outside Japan and in English.

It's not easy and cheap to make new servers, especially for a new country

That, and there's the matter of this game playing with "history where Japan and America were hostile to each other" (read: WW2), so with that in mind I doubt they want to release it elsewhere

Gotta mind the reaction from the general public, too, not just the otakus

Then again, "variety" in the US Navy can be a bit of a losing proposition. There were more Essex-class carriers than Fubuki-class destroyers during the war!

Ha, well for the fletcher class which is in AL, there's a bit of mixing up (hair color/style,eyes); not like a legion of identical ships like in some things.

In order to complete an event using a full foreign fleet (on casual/easy), we still don't have enough DD and we're gonna need a least one light cruiser...

Kinda hope they add a destroyer next for the US fleet. I want to see them add the USS Stewart(DD-224).
