Honestly, it kind of depends upon whether Mahiro sees himself as a boy or girl (and he tends to see himself as a boy) as well as whether he sees Momiji as a boy or girl (and considering the "is this yuri?" question, he's more sure about being attracted to Momiji specifically because Momiji is a girl than he is about his own gender).

Of course, when you start dealing with nonbinary genders or gender fluidity, the concepts of "straight" and "gay" are far less formal or even meaningful to start with. If two androgynous AIs fall in love, does the entire concept of "straight" or "gay" have any meaning at all?

Yes, they can. Transwomen exist (and are fairly common), and while I believe that men who like traps are gay, I also believe that transwomen are not traps. They're only a trap if they're a cisgender guy. A man who likes transwomen is still straight, and a woman who likes transwomen is still a lesbian.

I kept it to a simple "even people in that community don't agree" earlier because I don't have particularly strong feelings on whether or not traps are gay, but I have VERY strong feelings on whether or not transwomen are traps because that's actually a serious societal issue (whether or not traps are gay doesn't change much, but whether or not transwomen are traps is a BIG FUCKING DEAL to the LGBTQ+ community- like, with absolutely no exaggeration, it is a matter of life and death to many transwomen).

I agree that women can't be traps (except reverse traps but that's something else), it was never my intent to suggest anything else.

Sorry for the necro but I have a question. By trans woman do you mean someone biologically male with gender dysphoria or someone biologically male (gay, straight or otherwise) who prefers being defined as a women? As I understand it, as explained to me by a very good friend of mine who is part of the community, those are two very different things because gender is part of your psychological makeup rather than something you decide much like someone's sexuality.
