It is supposed to be just protectiveness of a father for his daughter against anyone who would harm her. It is disturbing, though, that we can't definitively say that that is what it is.

That's why my joke about who's chaperoning who. Is Gudao protecting Komashu from Fionn, is Fionn protecting Komashu from Gudao, or is Fionn protecting Gudao from Komashu? (The answer, of course, is "yes.")
