that's why there's no casing. it's all in the open. helps a lot for the heat. all I have to say is: hot damn, that machine's gotta draw a LOT of power.
He's asking for a meltdown. There is a reason that every server and supercomputer in the world keeps its case on except for maintenance, the cases promote airflow over the surfacec, without the case it can go anywhere it wants. The cases also blockout EM interference that plauges all the people with acrylic cases. He's a dumbass trying to look cool.
Man what was it I read... 10-15 watts for a harddrive? It'll suck maybe twice that on spinup, so if you have a dumb bios (99% of PC boards did until recently) then they'll all try to turn over when you hit the power switch and your computer might not even have enough juice to POST. If it does, it'll fail to find the OS because no drive can get started.
He looks like he has a decent controller though and it probably handles spinup nicely. All I'd worry about is that it looks like shit and would be hellish to keep clean.
He has positive air pressure on anything that actually gets hot, and the room is comparatively cool compared to the needs of electronics. Harddrives, even 7200s would be fine with passive cooling in that environment. They only get dicey when they're stacked close together (like 1/8" space between 'em on a stack of 3.5" drive bays.
this is a pretty old rig(but neat). I can build up a system wif prob more recources and power as this guy's rig but in one single enclosed case that would survive a trip to hell w/o any decimal increase in component and case internal Ambient air temperature and its noise would make my cat's purr so fuckn loud and annoying. -heat dissipation dnt look Ideal tho. but then again this rig aint for gaming. I lyk the setup tho...very very neat.

comment #14261 there are at least 4 psus, maby 6. comment #27117 he may be running raid so that it acess faster and has more security.
and as for comment #57581 you are right, this is not a gameing rig, it wouldent be under the extream stress, it is set up to look cool, work, and be fast, not to survive the rigers of games. if you try to play HL2 on there, then you would need to worry about heat, but for cgi, it wouldent pump that much.
i like the comments really funny onesXD but really outdated now:)) ive put up a 5tb rig with gaming specs. in one antec housing four fans. it takes a really hot day and a gooood game to heat the thing above the 4%.
