    This statement has a few issues. For one thing, s/he'd be experiencing it from a completely different set of circumstances, and in addition you're assuming that it wasn't High School that turned him into a Hikkineet, and that he wasn't perfectly fine in Middle School.

    From what Mihari said early in the story, he get worse or after during High school

    It's also worth pointing out he actually has friends now. Apparently, whatever friends he had before cut him loose when he became a hikikomori, assuming he had any- no one has really showed up check up on the "abroad at college big brother" or even called after him. So who knows what happens next.
