Tawawa on Monday #202: "The Time has Come"

The year 2018 started with Maegami-chan on January 1st (Monday) and ended with Maegami-chan on December 31st (Monday).
    https://twitter.com/Strangestone/status/1079513194912145408

Incidentally, the winter battle's third day will also begin~.
The phrase "winter battle" is referring to the currently ongoing Winter Comiket.

The amulet sold out…! Thank you on behalf of Maegami-chan!

    This week's theme is "battle".
Both Maegami-chan and Kiseki Himura are facing their own "battles" (childbirth and Winter Comiket, respectively).

She probably conceived edit: started seriously trying for a baby somewhere in the marathon snu-snu session on White Day last year, so having her due date somewhere around now isn't too far off.

Would make sense since it's been a few years, but ultimately it's the artist who decided if Ai-chan will ever graduate. Could focus more on her sister or whatever, but mondays will still be glorious thanks to Kiseki-sensei

She was confirmed pregnant on Mother's Day which was about 7.5 months ago (231 days per Google).

I don't know how long it takes a woman to be certain enough of pregnancy to inform her significant other, but it's likely she delayed that announcement deliberately so she could announce on mother's day. I doubt that would be more than a few days.

    So approximately 8 months?

Coincidentally, didn't this year also start on Monday?

    Yup.

Non leap years start and end on the same day. It's 52 weeks + 1 day.

Yeah, Himura himself noticed it too. On a different note, Maegami-chan did not show any signs of advancing pregnancy the last time we saw her 4 months ago.

... And one line of the commentary refuses to give anything that isn't a questionable translation (the first Monday in the 2018 Winter Games was the 4th day, not the 3rd one), while another defies my attempts at translation despite being seemingly a single word. Help, please???

3rd day of Winter Comiket. What'd you think "the amulet sold out" meant?

    edit:Here's the amulet

I thought it was referring to that amulet that Maegami-chan got on New Years for improving her chances at getting pregnant. No idea what "sold out" would mean in that context, though. Nevermind, saw your edit.

    This still leaves "はじまたー!", though.

    ----

On a completely different note, while looking at this year's Maegami-chan posts, I noticed by complete coincidence that we missed one tweet commentary for this post, and added it along with a translation.

Fun fact: The phrase "高たわわ率マンション" (kou tawawa ritsu manshon) seems to be wordplay on "タワー・マンション" (tawaa manshon), the latter having the meaning of "high-rise codominium / apartment building; tower block".

Speaking of fertility deities and the kami Jitome's shrine is dedicated to, when is Maegami due? Shouldn't it be about close to that time already? I haven't seen her since Paisley.

    I CALLED IT!!!

Going from graduating high school to becoming an offical couple with her beloved sensei to saying He was so cute to being Mount Fuji in a hatsuyume & wanting a safe childbirth amulet to becoming a June Bride to greating the New Year as her first full day as a mother, it must have been quite a journey and an accomplishment for Maegami-chan and all within the space of about 21 months!

I wish we had seen more of her with the bun in the oven though...

Then shouldn't it be はじまった? I suppose it's more than simply possible that he forgot to include っ in his haste. Comiket is... well, Comiket.

Me too. It's really jarring that she displayed no hints of a baby bump at all in all of her preceding appearances this year.

Yeah, you're right. And the best way to "start" the New Year (i.e. next Monday) would be to show her with a beautific smile while holding their newborn baby.

... And it just dawned on me that we might see breastfeeding jokes in future Maegami-chan strips. I heartily welcome them.

I read a translation somewhere on e-hentai of the last α chapter where Ai-chan said Maegami-chan was pregnant with twins. I don't know if I can trust that lol.

I wish we had gotten more pregnancy progression before the birth. She only just had a positive pregnancy test. There's a lot of lovey-dovey pregnancy stuff they could have been doing. Skipping right to the birth cheapens it and gives us that much less of sexy pregnancy.

Also the amount of tawawa increases during pregnancy; there was a lot of missed potential to be had during those months.

Now the question is: the child is a boy or a girl?, knowing the author then I think the child is a girl, that is, a future Tawawa.

That is correct, it appeared in Getsuyoubi no Tawawa Sono VI + α and should be accepted as canon since it came from Himura-sensei himself.

Actually, I've read either on E-Hentai or elsewhere that this is a mistranslation, which is sadly par for the course with the "group" that has been handling the translation of those volumes.

Out of curiosity, I went and dug out copies of both the raw and translation, and yes, I can verify that it's a mistranslation. She just says she's going back to college after having (around) two children. Overall, the whole 'translation' can best be described as a borderline rewrite, and that's when I'm feeling charitable about it.

(Major mistakes on every page, TL doesn't understand the meanings of many words, inserts LOTS of made-up parts, omits necessary parts, doesn't really understand grammar or moods/implications of sentence ending particles, etc. etc.)

    MarqFJA87 said:

It's basically an enthusiastic way of saying "it begins!" or "it started!" (Here it refers to Comiket 95, which is why the tweet is modified to omit the phrase after Comiket ended). Nonstandard spelling, but somewhat common on the Internet including on Twitter.

Basically the sokuon interferes with the dragged out pitch, which is why it's dropped. Not too dissimilar to how some consonants are dropped in English colloquial speech, especially in songs/poems or if someone is dragging out a word or stressing it in an unusual way.

(Which is not to say that it's okay to drop sokuon willy-nilly; there is a certain method to the madness that a native speaker or a frequent reader/speaker of the language would get, like h or g-dropping in English.)

Yeah, and to make it worse, they seem to be the only ones willing to bother translating that series.

... Now that I think about it, isn't there a pool for Volume 3? Should we just upload the other volumes here so that they can be given a proper translation, even if it's not typeset into the actual images?

From a cursory examination (skimming through the JP and EN texts on sadpanda, that is):

VI + α (the one I critiqued earlier) is done by a newbie translator (note also the typesetting) who doesn't really understand the text and 'makes up' for it my taking far too many translation liberties (to connect the fragments he does understand).

VI is done by someone else, and done very well.

Most of the others are done by some group called CabulLuRiz. The translation is generally competent, aside for some minor hiccups for some of the harder 'archaic' grammar used for poetic/dramatic effect. The main problem is that there are frequent grammatical mistakes that can sometimes obscure the meaning of the text or make it hard to read (V being particularly bad for example). Overall, I'll say the translator in the group knows his stuff (most of the time, aside from some of the less common 'archaic' grammar, or some highly context-dependent speech that are implied instead of explicitly said), but doesn't speak English as a first language so there is likely some degree of 'double-translation' going on (by the editor/proofreader) causing things to get lost in translation. Of course, whoever's doing the editing/proofreading doesn't seem to be a native English speaker either, causing some grammar mistakes and odd phrasings to slip in.

But yeah, overall, the translator understands the text (not perfect, but mostly okay), unlike the one for VI + α. Of course, since most people can't read Japanese, it's usually the one with bad grammar that gets criticized for being a bad translation (despite being faithful to the original text) instead of the 'well'-rewritten mostly make-up text written in fluent English (like all those MTLs rewrites for web novels). CGRascal, for example, gets a lot of (personally I think undeserved) flak for this, due to some odd phrasings and minor grammatical mistakes.
