So these are basically Golems from the Discworld series, then.

They are better off, I would say- as I recall, Dorfl and his fellows are buying the freedom of other golems. Golems generally are not paid if they are not free, after all, with some of them even being sealed into structures. So the ability to buy their own freedom puts these robots a step above the golems, I would say.

If the economy doesn't enable all people to get married and have a family, the economy isn't serving it's purpose. Same goes for the culture. Everything's broken now.

The workers have a valid argument. The number of jobs doesn't automatically increase when the number of laborers increases, and it's implied that many thousands of new laborers are introduced into the economy each year. Unemployment and real estate prices go up, and wages go down. This is one of the strongest arguments against allowing millions of foreigners to colonize your country.

Except the birth rate is falling in many industrialized countries that are also seeing large migrant influx. So the labor pool is readily able to be replaced. This emboldens anti-immigrant sentiments and natalism in the country because, even though the labor market can be replaced, it's not the "right" labor (native born citizens), even though most natives would never do some of the back breaking, degrading work migrants end up having to do in America or Europe (picking vegetables on farms, cleaning houses, sanitation etc).

So 'illegal' immigration remains, because the country can take advantage of the delicate situation migrants are in and companies exploit the loophole of their lack of citizenship documentation. Not so black and white.
