There's only one controversy involving LO. When manga was still in ongoing, ZOTT was a tremendous slog to get through. People hated it. But if you read it in one go, not waiting a month between each chapter, it's a good, satisfying read.

It was REALLY a slog for English readers. Each volume for the official translation had a release schedule of anywhere between 4-9 months, so the wait felt especially agonizingly long for Stateside fans while the ZOTT was going on.
