I wondered if it was just that the mouse wasn't plugged in, but since I couldn't touch the computer itself, there was no way to tell. (^^;)

Not only that, the OS is literally 19 years old at this point. I haven't even seen it in my life, and I used to use 96 as a kid.

Man 2000. That's what we used before xp. Then we stuck with that until we had to upgrade to 8 and 10

More or less same here. Because my parents intentionally been getting crap at first and then gradually upgrading to slightly better crap until I was able to buy parts myself. That evolved in me perk of "Windows XP and XP64 lasting for years without monthly reinstalls" even after being discontinued. Well, it was before hardware upgrade which grudgingly somewhat forced me onto Win7 that I still use same way and I know, a day of the same fate for Win7 is nearing...

That was my upgrade path on the Windows side of things. Had 2000 via my vocational center, upgraded from 98SE on my gaming rig (aside from homework and e-mail it was basically my EverQuest box).

Also via the computer lab I had the displeasure of dealing with computers that had Windows ME on them. That buggy pile of garbage was enough to get us to create and exorcisere-image every machine that had ME on it with 98SE.

You chose poorly. 7 was vastly superior to 8. I still don't want to give up 7 for 10....

Also, 2K was the one that was made for servers specifically (which is why most people never actually used a computer with 2K - and NT is mostly a forgotten footnote), while ME was the fuck-up Windows of that generation for general use that forced Microsoft to convert 2K into XP going forward. (Which was the start of Microsoft's cycle of trying to do something new with their OS, then fucking everything up, then having to make the next version of Windows their apology for fucking up the last one. I.E. ME failed -> XP was the apology -> Vista failed -> 7 was Vista with all the shit parts removed -> 8 was a dumpster fire where they tried to pretend PCs were phones -> 10 was the slightly-less-garbage version of 8 they gave away for free because nobody wanted 8 or 10.

For companies who pay for it there's support till 2023. I bet those updates will appear somewhere.

I finally gave up 7 for 10. Practically everything in the UI pisses me off and I hate the fact that if you don't "sign out" before shutting the computer down then it immediately brings all the shit that was running back up before anyone even logs in next time you boot, thus if Mom uses the computer and shuts it off (the way she learned when we had XP and 7 except she had to figure out the new button on the "Start menu") then I have to log back into her account and sign out before logging into mine if I don't want her processes idling in the background. The only saving grace is that I set up shortcuts for the things I use so I don't have to use the interface itself much (unless accessing anything previously found in my user folder because the one I actually use is on a disk other than C: and the OS refuses to merge them in the Libraries properly) and the actual programs I use haven't changed much, so I can ignore that it exists in the back most of the time.

Enh, I've always loathed that Libraries thing. I use folders off of the root directory based upon category with branching subfolders, the way that God intended! (I.E. even Steam is in my "!Games" folder. The exclamation mark is because I access it often enough I want it to jump queue in alphabetical order.)

Windows 2000 was the best Windows version Microsoft ever made.

    Unfortunately, it wasn't very good.
