All of these official art’s design of the character for the remake really makes me think they’re just reusing the 3D models from the movies and it can’t help but iff me a bit.

Well, aside from being one of the most iconic and famous rpg games of all time, and THE most successful game Square Enix has ever made, they did "revisit" X, X-2, and XII in the form of a texture overhaul and rebalance in the latter case, and the games before that don't have nearly as much rep to really warrant another look at all. As much as I sympathize and wish for a redux of some of the older titles, it is perfectly clear where their money is.
