It honestly feels like the more I watch animé and play Japanese video games, the more it seems things like character personality and natural storytelling are ignored in favor of making the story seem as cool, cute, or sexy as possible.
The worst part... Alicization is comparatively better than the other iterations of SAO. When your story is bad but still so much better than what came before that really says something.

Blame the whale otakus. They're the ones who will buy anything with bishoujo on it. Blame the light novel industry. They're the ones who doesn't push for their writers to put in more efforts because making "quantity over quality" is just easier even though the similarly structured manga industry proved that "quality over quantity" makes for far more profits and staying power. Blame the Japanese society that pushes people down and make them feel irrelevant, that they came to think the only way they can feel like they're worth anything is by going into a completely different world where they're automatically the best thing ever. Blame the internet age for decreasing people's attention span, that endorses clickbait marketing strategy over contents with actual meat.
